# Privacy Policy

Total Recall is built local-first. Your memory stays on your machine. This policy explains exactly what the software stores, what leaves your computer, and what never does.

## What Total Recall stores, and where

Total Recall indexes your AI agent sessions, the documents and folders you choose to connect, saved facts, and recurring work patterns, all in a local database on your computer (by default under ~/.claude/total-recall/). Nothing is uploaded to Total Recall servers. There are no Total Recall servers that hold your data.

## What never leaves your machine

- Your sessions, conversations, and their content
- Your connected documents, notes, and knowledge files
- Your saved memories, decisions, and patterns
- Search queries and recall results
- The embeddings and indexes built from any of the above

## Network connections the software makes

- **One-time model download** of a ~128MB open-source embedding model (bge-small-en-v1.5).
- **Update checks** against GitHub for new releases.
- **License validation** carrying an anonymized machine identifier, no personal information and none of your content.

The software contains no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting, and no advertising identifiers.
